The Kitchen Sync is an environmental ensemble of creative musicians who experiment, explore, and enliven anything in the environment that makes a sound. The Kitchen Sync rehearses at 5:30 p.m. in C107 of Bishop Hall.
In this ensemble, we collect objects, explore their acoustical principles, and assemble them as a collection of acoustical musical instruments on which we compose and create musical compositions of various styles. In addition to found objects we incorporate buckets, tubes, pipes, and other reclaimed items into our orchestra. Our culminating musical project is an informal performance at the end of the semester enhanced with audience participation, movement, singing, audio-visual displays, and technology.
We shared 2 musical pieces on Sunday, April 23 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton at 3 1/2 E. Main Street. Below is one of that we called "Rhythmic Wave"
Our primary instrument is the bucket! Here are some bucket basic techniques that we use:
We also seek out possible items, tools, and discarded junk to use as instruments in our band. Here's a video of the famous junk man:
We combine our chosen reclaimed items into a creative arrangements of beat and sound with improvisation and collaboration with the community as Big Beat demonstrates:
We will be interpreting various Beatles Tunes this semester through improvisation, singing, and movement.
